U8   Moors Rhino's

Home  against Various @ Moors Rhinos

Score:  -

Our Scorers: Joshua Carter 1

Man of the Match: Nathan Barnett

This week’s fixtures were at home at Moorhayes. Our first fixture was against Moors Under 7’s. This would be the first time both teams had played each other in the Mid Devon Soccer League. Both teams having their fair share of the action, but it was the Rhinos that got the opener, through a well placed shot from Joshua Carter on the edge of the box, not bad for our regular goalkeeper. The Under 7’s were to get the leveller when one of our defenders handballed in the penalty box and Jayden Legg calmly slotted his penalty past keeper Kyle Southcott, making his return in goal after missing a few games through illness.

Our second game was against Okehampton and our goal was soon under attack, with great defending from Liam Rose and Nathan Batstone we held them at bay and Kyle was called upon to make several saves, but eventually Okehampton scrambled in a goal. Despite great work rate from Nathan Barnett in midfield, we couldn’t really penetrate into their half to get the leveller.

Our third game was against Cheriton Fitzpaine. We were soon under pressure but more great defending and midfield battling, kept us in the game. Striker Freddy Paine was unlucky not to score, but just didn’t have the final finish. Cheriton were to get the opener from a superb strike giving Joshua little chance in goal. Cheriton got a scrappy second, despite our determined defending.

Our final game was against Crediton. This game we did manage to penetrate into their half through more great work from Nathan Barnett and superb footwork from JoJo Stoneman. Dominic Thompson played well especially as coach Grant forgot to substitute him throughout all four games, no wonder he was looking tired and complaining of stitch! Jack Partridge made some important tackles and upped his game in midfield alongside Nathan Batstone, who covered a lot of ground. But Crediton were to get the only goal of the game and this summed up our mornings football. We battled hard but we just didn’t have someone who could find us a couple of goals we much needed.

Man of the match was awarded to: Nathan Barnett

Squad: Joshua Carter, JoJo Stoneman, Liam Rose, Dominic Thompson, Kyle Southcott, Freddy Paine, Jack Partridge, Nathan Batstone & Nathan Barnett.
